Who gets tax refunds faster?
You can expect a quicker refund if you combine direct deposit with electronic filing, rather than printing out and mailing in paper tax returns. The IRS is asking taxpayers to avoid filing paper returns, if possible, and instead e-file. Filing your return the old-school way could cause another processing delay.
Refund information is updated on the IRS website once a day, overnight. Remember, the fastest way to get your refund is to e-file and choose direct deposit. Note: To check on the status of your state tax refund, you'll need to check your state's tax agency website for more details.
Direct deposit to bank account: Direct deposit is when your tax refund is deposited into your bank account. This is the quickest refund method, and you might receive your refund within one to three weeks, depending on your filing method.
The best and fastest way to get your tax refund is to have it electronically deposited for free into your financial account. The IRS program is called direct deposit. You can use it to deposit your refund into one, two or even three accounts.
According to Lending Tree, high-income taxpayers in the $500,000 to $999,999 bracket received the biggest total dollar amount refund—an average refund of $35,128 in tax year 2020. Low-income taxpayers in the $10,000 to $24,999 bracket received the biggest refund as a percentage of their income.

We issue most refunds in less than 21 calendar days. However, if you mailed your return and expect a refund, it could take four weeks or more to process your return.
The IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 calendar days. However, it's possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer. The Where's My Refund? Tool has the most up to date information available about your refund.
The fastest way to get your tax refund is to file your taxes electronically. According to the IRS, electronic filings are processed much faster than paper returns. While paper returns can take six to eight weeks to process, electronic submissions can shorten this time to just three weeks — perhaps less in some cases.
How many refunds have been given in 2024? The IRS received more than 54 million tax returns during the first five weeks of this tax season, which began Jan. 29, which is down 1.7% from a year ago. So far, 36,288,000 refunds have been given in 2024, compared to 42,040,000 in the same time frame in 2023.
How fast does Credit Karma deposit tax refund?
Any remaining balance of the funds will be placed in the same Credit Karma Money Spend (checking) account once the funds are disbursed by the IRS, which is typically within 21 days of e-file acceptance.
Claiming 1 on your tax return reduces withholdings with each paycheck, which means you make more money on a week-to-week basis. When you claim 0 allowances, the IRS withholds more money each paycheck but you get a larger tax return.
- Have worked and earned income under $63,398.
- Have investment income below $11,000 in the tax year 2023.
- Have a valid Social Security number by the due date of your 2023 return (including extensions)
If you have a mortgage on your home, you can deduct your mortgage interest to reduce your total tax liability. If you purchased or refinanced your home recently, chances are that you have a relatively high interest rate.
Most Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) related refunds should be available in bank accounts or on debit cards by Feb. 27 if taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.
Note that your refund could be delayed because you claimed the child tax credit or the earned income tax credit, which takes a bit longer to process. By law, the IRS couldn't begin sending tax refunds to those claiming the credits until the middle of February at the earliest.
The earned income tax credit
If you are eligible for this credit, the maximum amount you could receive is: $600 if you have no dependent children. $3,995 if you have one qualifying child. $6,604 if you have two qualifying children.
Tracking the status of a tax refund is easy with the Where's My Refund? tool. It's available anytime on IRS.gov or through the IRS2Go App. Taxpayers can start checking their refund status within 24 hours after an e-filed return is received.
If you used TurboTax to e-file your return, you can login to your TurboTax Online account to check the e-file status. After your tax return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS can tell you the status of processing that return, whether you owe taxes or are due a tax refund.
The IRS told CNET that most child tax credit and earned income tax credit refunds would be available in bank accounts or on debit cards by Feb. 27 for taxpayers who have filed and chose direct deposit -- and there are no other issues with their return.
Can I get my tax refund within a week?
If you e-filed your return and chose direct deposit to receive your refund, you'll usually receive your refund in 8-15 days. However, you should allow an extra 1-5 business days for your bank to process the funds. If you chose the Refund Transfer option, the refund will come from the Axos Bank®, not the IRS.
Credit Karma members can get access to their tax refund up to five days early when they deposit it into their Credit Karma Money™ Spend account — no matter who prepares your taxes.
If a taxpayer receives the status update that their tax return was accepted but not approved, this means that the IRS has received their tax return, but they have not yet evaluated the information.
The oly way you may get a payment on a Saturday is if the refund was made on a Friday and the money is processed on the very next day. Other than that, refunds are never made to financial institutions on weekends of holidays.
If you sent your taxes in February, they are faster. It takes about 8-15 business days for the IRS to deposit the refund into your bank accounts. There is no specific time of day, nor even any specific day.
