The 10 Wisconsin electors, Chesebro and Troupis, Trump’s attorney in Wisconsin, all settled a civil lawsuit brought against them in 2023.

Documents released as part of those settlements showed that the strategy in Wisconsin replicated moves in six other swing states: Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, and belatedly New Mexico.

Reaction to the charges were swift and partisan.

Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said, "Good" in a post online.

This is outrageous.

Now Democrats are weaponizing Wisconsin’s judiciary.

During a stop in De Pere Tuesday evening, Donald Trump Jr. said, "It sort of feels like everything else they're doing, it's just lawfare."

When asked who invested he and the Trump campaign were in the fake electors scheme, he said, "I don't know if I was invested at all. We understand what's going on. We understood what's happening. We saw everything that came out since then."

In Michigan, 16 people were initially charged with forgery and other crimes. Six Republicans in Nevada, including the state’s GOP party chair and Republican National committeeman, were indicted in December on felony charges.

Meanwhile, 18 people — including Trump and several of his top lawyers — were charged last summer in Georgia. Three of those charged are accused of being fake electors. Several lawyers, including Chesebro, agreed to plea deals.

New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez, a Democrat, said in January that he wouldn’t prosecute. Charges also haven’t been filed in Pennsylvania or Arizona.

Documents from the settlement show how Chesebro was in direct communications with top Trump campaign officials for an assessment of how states were doing with the plan.

Trump lost Wisconsin to Biden, a Democrat, by fewer than 21,000 votes. Trump carried Wisconsin by a similar margin in 2016.
