The daughter of a psychologist/novelist and a programmer/songwriter, Blanton was raised on an ex-cattle farm in rural Virginia, soaking up the mountains and the music of John Prine and Joni Mitchell. After a few years spent with her ears peeled to everything from modern folk to Motown to vintage jazz, sixteen-year-old Blanton found herself toting her Taylor across the country to Eugene, OR to be a starving artist (with brief stints as a dog groomer, and later as a grantwriter). In fall of 2006, Blanton moved back east of Philadelphia. Following her move she shared the stage with nationally hailed acts including Amos Lee, Nellie McKay and Leon Redbone, embarked on a US/Canadian tour supporting Blue Note recording artists The Wood Brothers, and frequented renowned venues from the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA to Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, CA.

This morning you sat in a kitchen chair
Remembering the life that had led you there
The beauty that saved you and gave you the gift of despair
How the (coastal?) lost made you deaf to the things that could heal you
How it all came down to the day when you held him as close as you could
But his body was heavy as wood
And it hurt you to go
But you knew he could no longer feel you
And all of the joy in you turned to stone
Left you a specter of flesh and bone
And you had to submit to the sadness of staying alone
But the anger you felt was a satellite
And shot through the atmosphere burning bright
Left you exhausted and softened, too tired for spite
And one thing led to another and one day followed the last
And it all came down to the day when he held you as close you cared
And your body was lighter than air
And pure as the rain as you emptied your pain out into the past
And all of the joy you'd been frightened of rose like a halo to linger above
And you had to submit to the sweetness of staying in love
So open your arms to a love we'll give
Say thanks for the good life you've come to live
For the sorrow that (?) us and shows us the strength to forgive
The lyrics of Carsie Blanton's "Wedding Song" tell a story of transformation, love, and forgiveness. The song begins with the persona recalling a time when they were reflecting on their life and the events that led them to their current situation. They talk about how the pain they experienced had made them unable to see the things that could heal them, and how it had all come down to a moment when they held someone close, but they were heavy and unresponsive.
The persona speaks about how this experience left them feeling like a "specter of flesh and bone," and they had to submit to the sadness of staying alone. They were filled with anger that burned within them, but eventually, they became exhausted and tired of feeling spiteful. They surrendered to their feelings and let their guard down. Then one day, they found someone who held them close, and they felt lighter than air, and their pain was emptied into the past. The joy they had been frightened of rose like a halo above them, and they surrendered to the sweetness of staying in love.
In the final stanza, the persona encourages the listener to open their arms to the love they will receive, express gratitude for the good life they have come to live, and for the sorrow that has taught them the strength to forgive. Overall, the song is optimistic, and it emphasizes the power of love and forgiveness in healing emotional wounds.
This morning you sat in a kitchen chair
You were sitting, contemplating about your life in a usual kitchen chair
Remembering the life that had led you there
Reflecting on your past that led you to this point in life
The beauty that saved you and gave you the gift of despair
You recognize the beauty in life that saved you though it also gave you the gift of despair
How the (coastal?) lost made you deaf to the things that could heal you
You were lost in your thoughts and it made you oblivious to things that could heal you
How it all came down to the day when you held him as close as you could
You recall the day when you held him close as possible, wholeheartedly
But his body was heavy as wood
His body felt like it was wooden and weightier than usual
And it hurt you to go
You wanted to stay, but you had to leave
But you knew he could no longer feel you
You realized that he was no longer able to sense your presence
And all of the joy in you turned to stone
All the happiness within you solidified into grief
Left you a specter of flesh and bone
All that you were left with was a shadow of your former self
And you had to submit to the sadness of staying alone
You had to accept the sorrow of being alone
But the anger you felt was a satellite
The frustration you felt was orbiting around you
And shot through the atmosphere burning bright
Your frustration was expressed fiery hot, like a meteor bursting through the atmosphere
Left you exhausted and softened, too tired for spite
Your anger had exhausted you, rendering you too weary to be spiteful
And one thing led to another and one day followed the last
Days kept following each other, one thing after another
And it all came down to the day when he held you as close you cared
Once again, everything came down to the day he held you tightly
And your body was lighter than air
Your frame felt lighter than normal; weightless
And pure as the rain as you emptied your pain out into the past
By sharing your pain of the past, you had become as pure as the rain
And all of the joy you'd been frightened of rose like a halo to linger above
You had been scared of all the happiness that had been creeping back; now it rose like a halo and lingered above you
And you had to submit to the sweetness of staying in love
You embraced the beautiful sweetness of staying in love with somebody
So open your arms to a love we'll give
You're opening your heart to receive the love you'd been seeking
Say thanks for the good life you've come to live
You're grateful for the good life that you've been living so far
For the sorrow that (?) us and shows us the strength to forgive
Through sorrow, we often learn how to forgive; this is something to be thankful for
