The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (2024)

The Marvel Universe is home to a lot of impressive costumes from a lot of different eras. From the very beginning, the company made a name for themselves by having characters with designs that were much more unique and striking than what was common at the time. Since then, artists have created some iconic characters that are now finding their way to the big screen. What makes their costumes so good is that they are all unique. It's not limited to just having a different color scheme and logo but keeping the cape and general layout with each character. There are many different design choices made with each character that go above and beyond what would normally be expected from different superheroes.

It's what helps each member of the Avengers to stand out from each other and makes them much easier to distinguish when they're involved in large battles both on screen and on the comic pages. However, with all of the great costume choices, it does make us wonder which one is the best. While there is no definitive answer to this, as the feeling on each design is largely subjective, we have decided to rank the outfits of the Marvel superheroes and go through our top picks. Get ready to take a dive through Marvel history as we rank the top 25 Marvel superhero costumes. Keep in mind that villains will not be appearing on this list, so don't be surprised when Venom, Doctor Doom, and Magneto aren't listed.

25 ULTIMATE HAWKEYE

Hawkeye's standard design left a lot to be desired, so we were extremely thankful when Marvel took the opportunity to give him an upgrade in the Ultimate Universe. This time around, Hawkeye looks much more like the deadly archer we know him to be.

He still keeps some of his dark purple, but he is sporting a militaristic face mask with bright red goggles instead of that goofy bright mask he once wore. Complete with a new logo and tough armor, he looks like a proper Avenger.

24 FUTURE FOUNDATION

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (2)

When the Fantastic Four reach one of their darkest hours, they decide to make a new team with a new goal for the rest of the world. Human Torch lost his life and, as his dying wish, wanted the team to start the Future Foundation and have Spider-Man be a member of the family.

The Future Foundation was complete with new costumes for the heroes. Boasting sleek black and white designs, all four members looked striking, with Spider-Man clearly getting the most visually pleasing design out of all four of them.

23 RONIN

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (3)

If the Ultimate Hawkeye isn't sleek enough for you, then prepare to be amazed when you see the Ronin design. Not to be confused with Ronan the Accuser, Ronin was a mantle worn by a few heroes, the most notable of which being Clint Barton.

The costume worn was a black design with some yellow cloth as an accent. It was both attractive and practical, being based on both ninjas and samurai of Japan. Considering it's teased Hawkeye will become Ronin inAvengers 4, there's a lot of excitement surrounding his involvement.

22 ANTI-VENOM

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (4)

The Anti-Venom Symbiote was created when Eddie Brock's white blood cells were combined with the leftover Venom Symbiote in his body. At that moment, Brock became a new Symbiote, one that had more noble intentions on its mind known as Anti-Venom.

Instead of a darker color, Anti-Venom sports white as its primary color with black as an accent. The character is both frightening as he is awe-inspiring to look at. He doesn't have the icon power of Venom or Carnage, but he does have the right look to get him a spot on this list.

21 ODINSON

Thor's standard design is okay. It's every bit as regal and Nordic as you would expect, with the winged helmet, massive cape, and Mjolnir in hand. It's when Marvel is willing to strip the title away from the God of Thunder that he starts to look much more interesting.

When Thor was deemed unworthy of Mjolnir, he wielded the axe Janbjorn and wore a tattered cape instead of his regal one. On top of that, he also had a metal Uru arm to boot. It was a much more interesting look to the character.

20 CLOAK

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (6)

A good superhero costume clearly reflects what the character is about and/or what their powers are. That's why Cloak's design has earned a spot on this list. Cloak has the power to open a new dimension through his cloak. He can trap people and teleport them to other places.

He has an appropriate design of white eyes with a dark cloak surrounding his body. His limbs are almost never shown to give him more of a supernatural look, which does benefit his impact in the long run. Hopefully theCloak and Dagger TVseries can capture it well.

19 XORN

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (7)

A mutant with an entire star where his brain should be: that's the premise behind Xorn. This mysterious character came to the X-Men and no one knew much about him. That said, his design perfectly reflected his powers.

Due to having a massive amount of energy in his head, Xorn had an advanced mask with large blue eyes and bumps over his skull that hinted at the power he was trying to contain. The mask also came down to sport technological enhancements over his body while he wore an old X-Men jacket.

18 DEADPOOL (X-FORCE)

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (8)

Deadpool has always had an interesting full-body red and black suit, but we have to tip our hat to the X-Force version of the costume. This time around, Deadpool is sporting a white and black color scheme with red eyes to boot.

Deadpool has been often likened to "Ninja Spider-Man," but the X-Force variant ensures that people won't make that mistake. On top of that, it stands out more than his normal look. It also makes the logo on his belt more noticeable.

17 SPIDER-MAN 2099

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (9)

Spider-Man is one of Marvel's most popular characters, so it makes sense that they would create other versions on him in the Multiverse and one of the earliest ones was Spider-Man 2099. A hero of the future, he was given new equipment and a new outlook on life to fit with the times.

The costume was pretty rad too. Spider-Man 2099 had a primarily blue costume with no eye holes, just red outlines where they should be. He was also given some blades over his arms and some web wings that allowed him to glide.

16 GHOST RIDER

Ghost Rider is the Spirit of Vengeance in the Marvel Universe. As such, he had to be given a design that was eye-catching, terrifying, and awesome. It goes without saying that Marvel nailed it from the very start.

Being depicted as a bike rider from Hell, Ghost Rider was given chains, a leather jacket, and a flaming skull for a head. Couple that will him sitting on top of his bike drenched in fire, and Marvel has created one of the scariest heroes to ever exist in comic books.

15 ARCHANGEL

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (11)

Angel is a classic X-Men character, but he was in dire need of some new life breathed into him. Leave it to Apocalypse to get the job done. He made Angel become one of his Four Horsemen and gave him a new look.

Taking the name Archangel, Angel looked much sleeker than normal. Representing a mini version of Apocalypse with ablue design, he became much cooler to look at. The blue face with red eyes was also a nice contrast to the lighter tones of his wings.

14 ALL-NEW ALL-DIFFERENT DAREDEVIL

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (12)

Daredevil's classic look is iconic, featuring a bright red design that fit nicely with his name. While that design is good, we'd have to give the spot on the list to the All-New All-Different version of the character.

This variant of the costume is black with the logo, gauntlets, and belt in a dark red. Not only does this costume look better in contrast, but it also manages to be more practical in context. There's no way that Daredevil would able to sneak around Hell's Kitchen dressed in bright red.

13 THE HULK

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (13)

When Bruce Banner had an accident and was overexposed to gamma radiation, most were shocked that it didn't end his life. Instead, it turned him into a massive green giant who only got stronger the angrier he became.

The Hulk started out with a gray design, but the green design seen a bit later is much better. Having green skin with the purple shorts, Hulk instantly had an iconic look that contrasted nicely on the pages. The look is iconic that anyone adapting the character in movies didn't have the heart to change it.

12 MS. MARVEL

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (14)

Kamala Khan is a powerful character. After being inspired by legendary superheroes, she decided to use her powers (activated by the Terrigen Mist) to become a hero herself. Taking the name Ms. Marvel in honor of Captain Marvel, she was a fangirl who learned how to become a leader.

Ms. Marvel has a design that's derivative of Captain Marvel, but with plenty of tweaks. She has a blue costume with a red cape and mask while sporting a lightning bolt on her chest. It's a simplistic design that communicates her determination to be a hero despite her own limitations.

11 IRON FIST

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (15)

Danny Rand defeated an ancient dragon in order to become the Immortal Iron Fist. This martial arts master then returned to Hell's Kitchen to fight all sorts of villains that lived in the criminal underbelly.

Going along with his powers was a bright green costume with a yellow mask and belt. A fascinating dragon tattoo sits over his chest as well. It all comes together to show off a hero who is at one with the arts he studied so fervently in the mystical city. And we love every inch of it.

10 STORM (CLASSIC)

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (16)

✕ Remove Ads

Storm is one of the most powerful X-Men to date, having full control over the weather. She can create lightning, summon tornadoes, and throw enemies in massive hurricanes.

To go along with her impressive set of powers, she needs a costume that reflects it. Her classic design sees her sporting long white locks with a black outfit and cloak. Seeing her fly through the heavens and shoot down sparks of lightning is always fun to watch when she's wearing that design. It's arguably the best version of her costume to date.

9 SILVER SURFER

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (17)

You would think that a character based entirely around one color wouldn't have such a striking design, but that couldn't further from the truth when discussing the Silver Surfer.

After being turned into the herald of Galactus, he was made entirely silver, jets through the universe on his surfboard, and was granted the Power Cosmic. His design is simple, but it communicates the idea that he is a being from another world. He encapsulates everything that is great about the cosmic corner of the Marvel Universe. The surfboard completes the look too.

8 CAPTAIN MARVEL (CAROL DANVERS)

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (18)

There are a few people who have taken up the name of Captain Marvel, but the one with the best costume has to go to Carol Danvers. While characters like Mar-Vell did have some neat designs, Captain Marvel's is the most cohesive and well-thought out.

Sporting the red, yellow, and blue with that golden star on her chest is a simple yet extremely effective design. Some versions of her costume even give her a red mask, which is also striking to see. The costume communicates power from every inch.

7 CLASSIC CYCLOPS

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (19)

All of the X-Men had very unique designs when brought into the comics. They weren't reliant on identical uniforms to get the job done. One of the best costumes for the team was easily Cyclops' classic look.

The blue and yellow work well as complimentary colors to one another, and having the visor glow red is a nice touch. It draws attention to all the right places and clearly embodies what his name suggests. As the leader of the X-Men, it makes sense that he'd have such a great design.

6 PHOENIX

The 25 Best Marvel Superhero Costumes, Ranked (20)

✕ Remove Ads

If there's one X-Men design that we think is better than Cyclops, it would be Phoenix. Jean Grey has had a colorful and clear outfit from the very beginning. Sporting a green outfit with a yellow phoenix over her torso, the outfit hinted at her true potential.

What was most impressive about the outfit is that most fire-related characters wore red or orange. Jean Grey sported green and yellow, which was contrary to what most artists were doing at the time.
