1 Identify your stressors

The first step to managing stress is to recognize what triggers it. Stressors can be external, such as workload, deadlines, clients, or market conditions, or internal, such as self-doubt, perfectionism, or lack of control. By identifying your stressors, you can understand how they affect you and how you can address them. You can also prioritize your tasks, delegate or ask for help when needed, and set realistic and achievable goals.

Cognitive restructuring is about changing negative thoughts that can stress you out. Here's how you can do it:Spot Negative Thoughts:Notice when you're thinking negatively, like when you believe everything will go wrong.Question Your Thoughts:Ask yourself if your thoughts are based on real facts or just assumptions. Challenge them by thinking about evidence for and against them.Replace with Positive Thoughts:Instead of thinking everything has to be perfect, tell yourself it's okay not to be perfect, and you'll do your best.Use Positive Statements: Practice saying positive things to yourself, like "I can handle tough situations" or "Mistakes help me learn."

Great perspectives shared here. I would add that stress is self induced and avoidable. The problem however is that for many in the corporate environment we let our desire for success to be our guiding beacon. Additionally, the type of work environment where profitability is the objective could also be one’s personal health demise. We need to take a step back, take a deep breath and say what do I really need in life. Short term success or long term well being. Nature works in equilibrium and should we.

2 Practice self-care

Stress can take a toll on your physical and mental health, so it is important to take care of yourself. This means getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising regularly, and avoiding excessive caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine. Self-care also involves finding time to relax and recharge, such as by meditating, reading, listening to music, or engaging in hobbies. You can also seek support from your family, friends, or colleagues, or consult a professional if you feel overwhelmed or burned out.

Another way to manage stress is to enhance your skills and competencies. By learning new things, improving your knowledge, and expanding your network, you can boost your confidence and performance. You can also seek feedback, mentorship, or coaching to identify your strengths and areas for improvement. Additionally, you can develop your emotional intelligence, which is the ability to understand and manage your own and others' emotions. This can help you communicate effectively, handle conflict, and cope with change.

4 Balance your work and life

One of the biggest sources of stress for financial managers is the difficulty of balancing work and personal life. You may feel that you have to work long hours, be available 24/7, or sacrifice your personal interests for your career. However, this can lead to burnout, dissatisfaction, and reduced productivity. Therefore, it is essential to set boundaries, prioritize your tasks, and communicate your needs and expectations. You can also use technology to your advantage, such as by automating tasks, using online tools, or working remotely.

Just as we plan our work week, planning time away from work is just as important. Having a plan for your days off helps you keep perspective on your time and gives you something to look forward to. It also gives your family something to look forward to while you are spending long hours in the office.

5 Celebrate your achievements

Finally, managing stress also involves acknowledging and rewarding yourself for your achievements. You may be so focused on the next challenge or goal that you forget to appreciate how far you have come and what you have accomplished. By celebrating your successes, you can reinforce your motivation, resilience, and self-esteem. You can also express gratitude to yourself and others who have supported you along the way. You can celebrate your achievements by giving yourself a treat, taking a break, sharing your results, or receiving recognition.

  • One additional approach would be to avoid getting emotionally involved with your job….treating a job like one and not let it become a larger part of your life. This will help to disconnect and also will reduce the impact of the work situation on your life. I also strongly believe in finding a spiritual anchor in life which would help to deal with not only the stress / anxiety / uncertainty related to your work but also that may come from other spheres of life. Such anchor will empower us to deal with life’s challenges in a positive and alleviate the overall quality of life.
