Weekly Paycheck Calculator

This calculator will help you to quickly convert a wage stated in one periodic term (hourly, weekly, etc.) into its equivalent stated in all other common periodic terms. This can be helpful when comparing your present wage to a wage being offered by a prospective employer where each wage is stated in a different periodic term (e.g., one is listed as an hourly wage and the other is listed as annually).

Simply enter a wage, select it's periodic term from the pull-down menu, enter the number of hours per week the wage is based on, and click on the "Convert Wage" button.

How Much Will Your Weekly Paycheck Be?

Historically the most common work schedule for employees across the United States is an 8-hour day with 5-days per week. If you work 40 hours a week then converting your hourly wage into the weekly equivalent is easy as you would simply multiple it by 40, which means adding a zero behind the hourly rate & then multiplying that number by 4.

Calculating Average Weekly Pay for Uneven Work Hours

Some professions like nurses & doctors in the healthcare industry might work longer shifts where they are on for 12 hours a day alternatively 3 days one week, 4 days the next week. That could make their work schedule alternate between 36 hours and 48 hours.

For people with alternating work schedules (like doctors or nurses) to calculate their average hours they would add 2 weeks together & then divide by 2. So, for example, 3 days plus 4 days is 7 days, which divided by 2 is 3.5 days in their average work week. Likewise, 36 plus 48 is 84 hours, which becomes 42 after dividing by 2.

Calculating Average Weekly Pay for Gig Workers & People With Multiple Jobs

After the passage of the Affordable Care Act (or ACA, also known as Obamacare) some employers lowered worker hours to get below the health insurance carriage requirement, so the average work week has been pulled down to around 32-hour for many workers while some work even less. Workers have offset lowered hours by obtaining multiple jobs, or augmenting their regular incomes by participating on on-demand networks like Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Postmates, TaskRabbit, Amazon Flex, Fiver. Some people also rent out their homes on platforms like Airbnb, rent out their cars on platforms like Turo, or buy & sell on online marketplaces like eBay, Amazon, Craigslist & Etsy.

The rise of gig work has also meant that many people have irregular work schedules. No matter what your schedule, this calculator makes it easy to quickly estimate your pretax or after tax hourly earnings based on your year end wages or monthly earnings. A hypothetical scenario is below.

If your calculation seems complex then break it into its component parts. For example, if you have 2 part-time jobs, sell on Etsy & drive for Uber you would calculate each individually.

  • Gas station attendant: A worker who works the 8-hour graveyard shift 3 nights a week at the gas station is working a total of 24 hours. If they are paid $12 an hour that comes to $288 per week.
  • Waitress: A worker who works a 8.5-hour lunch to dinner shift on weekend works 17 hours a week. If the waitress receives $5 an hour in wages that comes to $85 per week. If she tends to make around $75 in tips per day that brings her total weekend haul to $235.
  • Etsy seller: If she sells about 2 items a week for $36 each, spends $5 on shipping each item out & has a $11 cost of goods for each item then her profit is $20 per item, or $40 weekly on average. If creating each item (along with managing supply inventory, interacting with customers & then shipping the items) takes her 2 hour then this comes to $10 per hour.
  • Uber driver: If she drives on Uber on Friday & Saturday nights she can make anywhere from $60 per 4-hour shift. This amount comes to $120 across the weekend, but after deducting fuel along with wear and tear on her car she makes closer to $80.

With the above in place, we can add up the numbers.

Job Days per week Hours per day Hourly Total
Gas station 3 8 $12 $288
Waitress wages 2 8.5 $5 $85
Waitress tips 2 8.5 $8.82 $150
Etsy 1 4 $10 $40
Uber 2 4 $20 $80
Total 6 53 per week $12.13 $643
