The Employment Act 229 (Laws of Kenya) gives the minimum hourly rate at MonthlySalary÷225
However, this formula acts mainly as a guide and assumes a 52 hour work-week. Wingubox Payroll provides a more realistic approach based on international best-practice as below:
- Get the hours per week =Hours per day x Working days(perweek)
- Get the hours in a year = Hours per Week x 52 weeks (in a year)
- Get the hours per months = Hours in Year ÷ 12 (months)
- Get HourlyPay =Monthly Salary ÷Hours Per Month
- Get Daily Pay =Hourly PayxHours Per Day
Hourly rate and daily rate for workers paid on a monthly basis is important when calculating:
- Overtime
- Payment in lieu of leave
- Severance Pay
- Absenteeism
