WORLD COPD DAY: What SpO2 for a SaO2 target of 90% ?The answer depends on the skin pigmentation and pulse oximeter used. The SaO2 target cannot be the SpO2 target due to the confounding factors of pulse oximetry.To avoid occult hypoxemia and insufficient oxygen flow in patients with dark skin pigmentation or occult hyperoxemia and excessive oxygen flow in patients with light skin pigmentation, corrected SpO2 targets should be used.We have developed a free educational application, OXYG'APP, based on more than 2000 SpO2/SaO2 pairs to help clinicians assess the impact of confounding factors on the SpO2 target: For iPhone: https://lnkd.in/guP36KtTFor Android: https://lnkd.in/gui94awEThis tool is a food for thought to better understand the possible impact of pulse oximeters and skin pigmentation on SpO2 measurement. Great to see truly innovative treatment options for diabetes care get the regulatory approval to keep innovating onward. The omnipod allows pump like treatment by the use of subcutaneous injection on demand linked from sensor data and analytics to keep the patient on the go without the burden of pump wires or the stigma and prejudices that can be associated with injection by those unaware of the patients need. As my oldest friend is a life long type 1 diabetic , who’s job situation and working with extreme heat makes a traditional insulin pump a no go option , it’s great to see this kind of innovation for the benefit of the patient #diabetes #insulinDelivery #patientfirst #customercentricity

MEDICAL ID ON IPHONEThis is a strange thing for me to post, but whenever I mention about the Medical ID facility on iPhones, a lot of people are unaware.I had a situation with a young boy some years ago who was unwell and needed an ambulance, I could see on his iPhone that his Mum had tried to call him many times, but I could not get into his phone. After this I have now received First Aid Training.Medical ID is important information that can be accessed by anybody from the Home Screen of your iPhone and it holds important information about the person in need - contacts, allergies, medical history you may need to know etc.It is super easy to set-up on your phone and could save your life one day. Below are some tips on how to get it set-up.https://lnkd.in/esnVzKeUCreate your Medical IDSet up a Medical ID in the Health app.Open the Health app on your iPhone.Tap your picture at the top right, then tap Medical ID.Tap Get Started or Edit, then enter your information.Below Emergency Contacts, tap Add Emergency Contact, then add your contacts.After an emergency call ends, your iPhone alerts your emergency contacts with a text message, unless you choose to cancel. Your iPhone sends your current location (if available) and—for a period of time after you enter SOS mode—your emergency contacts receive updates when your location changes.Tap Done.Tip:To view your Medical ID from the Home Screen, touch and hold the Health app icon, then choose Medical ID.I advise everybody to spend a few minutes and get this set-up.
