Childe is many things—an average TCG Genius Invocation player, a black belt holder in multiple martial arts, and a fencing gold medalist during his teens–but an idol group fanboy is not one of them.
Well, not until he witnessed Scaramouche on stage–singing his first solo single ‘Bambi’, and dancing oh-so-sensually to the song with his backup dancers in his very respectful opinion. He may not understand the hype over the idol photocards that sell for thousands of mora or the extravagant fan projects during concerts just so they can see their idols cry out of gratitude, but when Scaramouche smirks in his direction, he knows it’s over before he could even realize that he is taking shot after shot of the singer.
This guy could ruin me, corrupt me, hit me, choke me, tie me up, and bite me. I would absolutely encourage everything he does as long as I get a smidge of his attention and love, he thinks in between the shutter of his camera and the screams of the fans as Scaramouche hits every high note perfectly. And if he has not yet sold his soul to the idol since the first body roll, he is definitely negotiating with the devil now. How can he continue living normally after witnessing all that ?
He is not only questioning his sanity by the time the next song comes up but also his sexuality because he cannot stop staring at those damn f*cking thighs . A convincing 10/10 would love to be respectfully held in a chokehold in between them. Thank you very much.

It takes another three songs for Childe to calm down and rest his arms after taking Archons know how many photos of Scaramouche during his entire segment in the music festival. He is excited to check them out in the safety of his room, but first, he has to endure Kaeya’s sh*t-eating grin while teasingly waving a Scaramouche at the other before dragging him out of the sea of fans already screaming for the next performer’s name.
“And here I thought you’re not into idols,” Kaeya smirks as soon as they are out of the venue and hands Childe a paper bag full of the freebies fans gave out before the music festival. “I bet most of those are Scara. Just don’t tell me what you do with them.”
Childe glares at his friend before reluctantly taking the bag despite the knowing look that the other is giving him. He takes a peek inside and internally curses at the number of cat-themed merchandise that Scaramouche has. And oh, they are even giving away fan-made photocards of him with cat ears on. Archons, he can both be cute and sexy. What if he just ends it all?
He doesn’t want to sound extremely insane, but he is already considering spending the rest of the night reading about Scaramouche’s career. Maybe he should start checking the prices of his albums while waiting for Albedo to pick them up from the venue. He heard that the idol was also from a popular boy group, but he wanted to focus on his solo first before moving deeper into the idol rabbit hole.
“Do you think people would sell his photocards in sets?” Childe asks, remembering the photocard collection of Signora that her sister has, which she keeps in a black binder designed with red and white trinkets to match her aesthetics. He would also love to have one dedicated to Scaramouche, preferably in a dark purple color to match his eyes. “It would be more convenient, but money is not a problem anyway.”

“Are you out of your mind?” Kaeya asks as he navigates through the sea of Scaramouche’s ÉXITO album littered around the living room of their shared apartment. He picks up one that Childe has recently opened and it spills out a photocard, a postcard, and a mini poster to his surprise. Maybe he should have listened to Albedo’s advice and ensured that his roommate was not left alone for a week without supervision because what the f*ck is this.
Childe ignores him in favor of scrolling through his phone before he suddenly starts jumping around and screaming in joy while the other questions his sanity. Arguing with teenage fangirls for extra copies of the album three days ago was so worth it because he just won the lottery for Scaramouche’s fansign event next week in Mondstadt. Fortunately, he lives in the city and the venue is just a 10-minute walk from their apartment.
“Okay, you have officially gone insane,” Kaeya announces as he tries to navigate through the mess his roommate made, stacking the albums up to create more space on the floor. Thank Archons Albedo declined his offer to go up with him for a cup of tea or he would’ve witnessed Childe be verbally murdered by his boyfriend. On second thoughts, that sounds great. He would love to see that.
Despite Kaeya’s comments, Childe remains grinning at his phone like a kid presented with his favorite candy—he looks like he is about to vibrate out of his skin from happiness. After a few moments of pinching his thighs and convincing himself that this is so f*cking real, he shows his screen to his roommate who has started browsing through the photobooks and comparing the different versions of the album.
“I won the lottery for the fansign!” Childe beams while the other looks at him confusedly before taking his phone to read through the content. He is so lucky to be 1 out of the 100 fans who won the lottery to attend Scaramouche’s fansign when he only bought 100 albums. Some people in the forum have said there were even instances when fans lost the lottery despite buying 600 albums. He could only pray that it would never happen to him because he did not want to be forced to pull some cards into his favor.
Besides, he likes the factor of surprise behind the lottery. The adrenaline rush that comes with winning. Life is just one grand bet and he is always the victor.
“You know,” Kaeya starts after reading through the guidelines posted on the website the other showed to him. “You could have just asked your boyfriend for a ticket instead of buying a hundred albums.”
“Where is the fun in that?”

Due to his sister’s insistence, Childe created a Twitter account to post the pictures of Scaramouche he had taken from the past three events that Kaeya dragged him to support their friend’s solo debut. But this isn’t about Thoma’s long-awaited solo career or his sudden shift to a darker concept–he needs to get his life under control because how the f*ck did he get 50,000 followers overnight? Is Scaramouche’s fanbase just insanely big or does he take good pictures of him? Both make him happy, but the latter would definitely inflate his already big ego. Take that Kaeya Alberbitch!
To be fair, he did not plan to become a fansite master for Scaramouche because this entire fanboy thing he has going on was supposed to be just a hobby to maybe pass the time and annoy the sh*t out of his friends, but he thinks it’s starting to become a problem now. He has a feeling that Scaramouche is starting to recognize him or, in Albedo’s loving words, he’s just extremely delusional. In his defense, he had captured several shots of the idol looking straight at his camera—even his fans had noticed it based on the pictures he had posted!
Hey, maybe, Scaramouche just finds him attractive, and no, Albedo, stop calling me delusional because why else would he do that, right? His pretty face is finally put to good use. Although he might have to start hiding said pretty face with a mask with how fast his fansite identity, Polar Star, is gaining traction.
Better safe than getting scolded by his parents.
The arena erupted with the screams of the fans after the stage lit up, revealing the five members of 5WIRL. They are fitted in matching school uniforms associated with their latest comeback ‘Love Me Right,’ which featured the members as student-athletes in the music video–although his favorite stage outfit will always be the football uniforms because of how cute Scaramouche looks.
“Inazuma, are you ready?” Venti shouts followed by another round of screams from fans. He winks at the crowd as he opens the song with his unique vocals and Childe might have fallen in love with him if he hadn't sold his soul to Scaramouche yet. Just kidding.
Scaramouche is the only one for him. No one else. Period.
His eyes are glued to Scaramouche the entire performance, committing every smile to his memory for safekeeping, and of course, taking photos of his favorite idol who keeps making eye contact with the lenses of his camera for some unknown reason. Let him be delusional and say that Scaramouche recognizes him from his stellar personality and attractive face.
Oh, the urge to whistle when he sends a smirk in his direction—maybe propose on the spot because he would make Scaramouche his god if it means he can call him mine. A wistful thinking but hey, a man can dream.

He needs his focus to be solely on the idol for the entire event or Kaeya and Albedo will be hearing his non-stop complaints until the end of the month. Nothing should get in between him and the love of his life!
“Don’t do anything stupid,” Kaeya reminds him after the staff asks the attendees to fall in line and prepare their album for Scaramouche to sign. Some fans have also attached sticky notes containing their question or messages to the idol to maximize the two minutes they have with him. “Last time I took my eyes off you, you were ready to propose to him.”
“He was wearing white! Our future together flashed before my eyes.” Childe argues while double-checking the contents of the paper bags he bought as a gift for the idol. Call him a simp or whatever, but he’s just a man who wants to spoil Scaramouche. Besides, money had never been a problem for him. His black credit card can handle any purchase he has except for the scolding of his parents, but he knows they would understand, especially knowing who the items are for.
It takes about two hours before Childe is finally in front of the most beautiful person in existence–the unfortunate consequence of a high lottery number. His heart is about to crawl out of his mouth from how fast it is beating. He has faced Scaramouche multiple times in his career, but he never fails to take his breath away.
“Hi! Did your little brother win his football match?” Scaramouche greets as he takes the album from Childe’s shaking hands. Oh, Archons, our hands touched! He has now ascended to Celestia and is ready to face the judgment of the gods because it is one thing for the idol to remember his name and face, but for him to inquire about something he told him about months ago from a previous fan event? That’s a different story.
Archons, if he isn’t for me, I will not allow it!
“Teucer’s team won the match!” Childe replied proudly as he handed over his gifts to the other, including a big narwhal plushie he designed just for him. He kneels in front of the table so they can talk to each other at an eye level, and presents a drawing of Scaramouche that Tonya made for the idol. “My little sister insisted that I give you this.”
“Thank you.” Scaramouche carefully takes the drawing and admires every stroke and color Tonya added to the canvas. She drew him as if he had stardust on his fingertips and granted children’s wishes with glitters and butterflies. “It is beautiful.”
“Yeah, it is,” Childe beams while looking at the idol like he has found the answers to all the secrets of the universe because Scaramouche may just as well be that–the answer to the days of swallowing stars and wishing for something to burn the bandages drenched in lonely around his heart.
He is his guiding light. His polar star.
Scaramouche returns his signed album to him while subtly squeezing his hand in either warning or reassurance. He doesn’4 know, but the soft smile on his face makes him believe that the universe had aligned with him–he did something right. He will take that over anything.
Childe walks back to his seat and looks for the sticky note he had attached to the album and surprisingly he answered his question, though not the way he wanted. He wrote: ‘would you marry me?’ and added two checkboxes with the options ‘yes’ and ‘absolutely.’ However, Scaramouche decided that he did not appreciate both options and added another checkbox and wrote ‘no’ in all caps. Upon checking for the idol’s familiar signature, he starts laughing at the message he left for him.

Childe is the skeleton in Scaramouche’s closet lying next to his dirty laundry and emotional baggage. The vault under his childhood bed holds both his dreams and nightmares. The letters in between the pages of his old books he keeps away from his mother's eyes.
Childe is Kunikuzushi’s untold story.
Or at least, that’s what he thinks in fits of anger and jealousy. He gets it, okay? He has to share his boyfriend with his countless fans and spend more time staring at him on the other side of the screen than having a romantic dinner date with him. Despite the consistent late-night calls and the backstage passes during idol events, sometimes it gets frustrating when he can't even hold his hand in public or broadcast his love for him on every TV channel–and not in the superficial fan-idol relationship. No. His love is more than just buying expensive concert tickets, collecting limited photocards, and organizing fan events in honor of the idol.
It is in the way he tucks Kuni closer to his chest every time they fall asleep in each other’s arms just so the other can listen to his heartbeat—proof that he is here to stay even on days when Kuni feels like he is an imposter in his own skin. It is in the way he keeps the cap off the toothbrush in the morning because he knows that Kuni will follow suit once he realizes that the warmth beside him is gone. It is in the way he holds his hand under the table, away from prying eyes, but the look on his face tells the story of how he fell in love with the other man slowly but surely.
Of course, fights and misunderstandings are unavoidable, especially in the early days of their relationship and Childe takes responsibility for most of them—he was plagued with the fear of ruining Kuni’s career despite the support of the people that matter to them. And there are also days when there is only radio silence between them because of their busy schedules. Days when he hopes that Kuni misses him as much as he does because sometimes he wishes that Kunikuzushi would be reincarnated as his ribs, so he would never have to face the day without him. He knows it’s silly but love makes him say stupid sh*ts that he doesn’t even understand.
Yes, they have their highs and lows, but it doesn’t change the fact that Childe can taste the next 70 years of his life every time they kiss. Or the fact that he hugs him a little tighter every time they say goodbye because maybe, just maybe, he could make Kuni stay just a little bit longer.
Their love isn’t perfect, but it is theirs. And maybe that’s all that matters.
But that doesn’t mean it’s enough.
What can he do though? He cannot stop Kuni from continuing his idol career—that would be incredibly stupid considering that he loves watching his boyfriend perform on stage. Loves to see the satisfaction on his face every time he hits those high notes perfectly or those little details he adds on his solo dance performances that only Childe holds the meaning to.
But there are also cold lonely nights where he curls himself into a blanket of insecurity and lights up an incense of cruelty borne out of love. He wonders if enduring the pain of being Scaramouche’s dirty little secret is still worth it because sometimes he just wants to be seen. He wants to stop the speculations about his romantic relationships and just be sure that it’s still him.
That it has always been Childe.
That Kunikuzushi will choose him in every birthday party, in every award-winning speech, in every boring company meeting.
Everyday.
